Can you import an MBOX straight into Yahoo?
Not as a file, and it helps to know that first. Yahoo Mail has no upload button that swallows an MBOX, because an MBOX is a mailbox file that lives on your computer while Yahoo is a webmail account in the cloud. So importing an MBOX file to Yahoo really means pushing the messages up into your Yahoo mailbox over IMAP, the same protocol mail apps use to sync. There are two honest ways to do that, one free through Thunderbird and one direct with a tool, and both start from the same setup step.
First, create a Yahoo app password
Yahoo will not let another app sign in with your normal password. Any IMAP connection, whether it is Thunderbird or a migration tool, needs a one time app password that you generate inside your Yahoo account. Older guides that tell you to enter your usual Yahoo password are out of date, so set this up first and both methods below connect cleanly.
Generate your app password. Sign in to Yahoo, open Account Info, then Account Security, and choose Generate app password or Manage app passwords. Name it something like Thunderbird, and Yahoo shows you a short password. Use that in place of your normal password when the app asks to connect.
The app password is what lets Thunderbird or a tool reach Yahoo over IMAP and upload the mail.

Both methods end with your MBOX mail sitting in Yahoo, and the difference is whether you use Thunderbird. If you have Thunderbird, or do not mind installing it, you can import the MBOX and drag it into Yahoo for free. Import MBOX to Yahoo free with Thunderbird
There is a free way, despite what some guides claim. Thunderbird can import an MBOX and, once your Yahoo account is added over IMAP, you simply move the mail into Yahoo and it uploads.
Step 1. Install Thunderbird and add the ImportExportTools NG add-on. Import your MBOX into a local folder with it.
Step 2. Add your Yahoo account to Thunderbird as IMAP, signing in with the app password you generated.
Step 3. Drag or copy the imported messages from the local folder into a folder under your Yahoo account.
Step 4. Thunderbird uploads them to Yahoo over IMAP. Give it time to finish, and the emails appear in Yahoo Mail online.
It is free and keeps everything in one place, but it does mean installing Thunderbird, and a very large mailbox can be slow to upload and occasionally stalls partway. If that is not for you, the tool below skips Thunderbird entirely.

A clean upload keeps attachments inside each message rather than dropping them, and it preserves your folder structure so Inbox, Sent and any custom folders arrive separately instead of merged into one pile.
