Every Outlook version from 2003 onward: Outlook 2003, 2007, 2010, 2013, 2016, 2019, 2021, 2024, Microsoft 365 (Classic Outlook for Windows) and Outlook for Mac. New Outlook for Windows opens PST in supported builds for access and search; for full PST maintenance Microsoft recommends Classic Outlook.
Can I generate one PST per Thunderbird folder, or does it have to be one giant PST?
Both modes are supported. Pick "Single PST" to consolidate the entire Thunderbird mailbox into one Outlook data file (preserving the original folder hierarchy). Pick "One PST per folder" to write each top-level folder as a separate PST — useful for selective Outlook imports, archiving Sent and Trash separately, or staying under the 50 GB limit on very large mailboxes.
Are attachments and email formatting preserved in the PST?
Yes, lossless. Inline images, file attachments, HTML formatting, message headers (compliant with RFC 5322), original timestamps, sender and recipient fields and embedded calendar items all carry through into the PST exactly as they appeared in the source Thunderbird mailbox. Outlook displays them identically.
My Thunderbird profile is corrupted or will not open. Can I still get the data into PST?
Yes. As long as you can locate the MBOX files inside %APPDATA%\Thunderbird\Profiles\[profile]\Mail\ or ImapMail\, PCDOTS reads them directly and writes a clean PST. The streaming MBOX reader recovers messages from partial files, malformed message frames and corrupted Thunderbird 128 ESR profiles where Mozilla's own import fails.
Can I convert only specific Thunderbird emails or date ranges into the PST?
Yes. Filter by sender, recipient, subject, body keyword, date range or attachment size before writing the PST. Selective conversion produces a smaller, focused PST — useful for legal e-discovery or moving only the last twelve months of email into Outlook.
Should I generate a PST file or push directly to Microsoft 365?
If the destination user runs desktop Outlook or needs a portable archive, generate a PST file — it is offline, file-based and self-contained. If the destination is cloud-only Outlook on the Web / Microsoft 365 mailboxes, the optional Direct Outlook 365 Push delivers messages over Modern Auth straight into Exchange Online without an intermediate PST. Many users do both: PST as a backup, plus a cloud push for live access.
